According to internal data reviewed by The Information, U.S. subscriber growth for Disney’s Disney+ streaming service has slowed sharply over the past few months, after a sharp rise in the previous months, with the bulk of the growth being driven by India and Latin America. In the wake of this slowdown, there will likely be a debate over whether Disney should broaden the programming on Disney+ in order to appeal to a broader audience.
In the third quarter of its fiscal year, which ran from the end of April through the start of July, Disney+ had about 110 million total subscribers, up from the 103.6 million it reported at the end of the second quarter ending April 3, according to internal data. Over the past six months, almost 38 million of these were in India, an increase of 12 million from the previous six month period. Nearly 38 million subscribers were accounted for by the United States and Canada together. According to two people with knowledge of the internal data, North America had about 37 million subscribers at the start of February, an increase of about 3.5 million from the beginning of January.
